George McCoy has played the autoharp since 1975. His roommate introduced him to the instrument after George gave up the guitar because he didn’t like the calluses on his fingers. His playing style has elements of folk, bluegrass and a bit of the blues. He really likes playing comedy songs.

George plays the autoharp lap style with a finger picking technique that is unusual, to say the least. At the 2022 Mountain Laurel Autoharp Gathering, he used that technique to win the 30^th MLAG Championship!

George’s first live concert was as a featured performer and workshop host at the 2021 California Autoharp Gathering.

He lives with his wife, Linda, and his guide dog, Indy, in Arab, Alabama. He and Lin do a live stream on the Autoharp Down Home Facebook page on the second and fourth Saturdays of every month at 2:00 p.m. Eastern time.
